The European Alliance for Asian Studies and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) welcome proposals for workshops on themes of common interest to Asia and Europe, to take place in 2005/2006.
Proposals for workshops should be received by the Secretariat of the Asia-Europe Workshop Series before 1 February 2005. These will be refereed by the Asia-Europe Selection Committee. Nine to twelve proposals will be selected for realization.
Financial support consists of contribution towards travel and accommodation, up to a maximum of € 12,500 per workshop. Workshop initiators will be informed of the Committee’s decision by June 2005.
The Workshop
- Three days, to be held between September 2005 and September 2006 in an ASEM country.*
- Jointly organized by an Asian and European institute, from ASEM member countries.
- 20 participants: male/female parity, balance of senior experts and promising junior researchers, from at least 8 ASEM countries (Asia and Europe equally).
- Participants are invited primarily, though not exclusively, from academia - contributions from politicians, journalists and representatives of industry are welcome.
- The topic should be innovative and interdisciplinary, address shared interests between Asia and Europe, be of interregional / multilateral importance, and stimulate inter-continental dialogue.
The proposal
Maximum eight pages, in English. The proposal should contain:
- Title of the workshop, proposed date and venue, names of initiators and organizing institutions in Europe and Asia, and one contact address (page1)
- Introduction to the topic and scientific objectives (pp. 2-4)
- List of confirmed participants, with institutional affiliations and disciplinary competence in relation to the workshop’s topic (pp.5)
- Detailed programme including paper titles (pp.6)
- Itemized, detailed budget showing expenses and expected income (pp.7)
- Envisaged publication(s) (pp. 8)
Deadline and address
Proposals should be received (by regular mail) by the Asia Europe Workshop Series Secretariat no later than 1 February 2005.
